Important Notice

The Brotogeris Society International (BSI) was established in 2000 to be a resource for those who are interested in all aspects of Brotogeris parakeets. Recently, the Board of Directors of BSI unanimously voted to dissolve the organization in accordance with the provisions of our by-laws. The target date for all BSI activities to conclude is September 30, 2010.

Is There Any Way I Can Connect With The Group?

Here's the link (coming soon) to see a variety of articles that appeared in previous issues of our quarterly publication. One thing that will not change is the popular Yahoo Group email. This communication avenue is a separate list from BSI and will continue. The Brotogeris list on Yahoo Groups has been a high-quality source for the dissemination of excellent information. So What Happened?

The BSI was an all-volunteer group. The time commitment and dedication put in by members of the governing boards over the years enabled us to provide assistance and knowledge to each member through the website and the quarterly publication. The BSI magazine, published four times a year, helped the group share information, experience, knowledge, and advice to those who keep and care for these wonderful birds.

A lot can happen in ten years. Group members come and go. Technology changes. The internet has evolved as a source for information. Member interest fluctuates. Costs rise, even if revenue from dues does not. The one thing that did not change was the commitment of members to Brotos and their love for them- and we thank you for that!

The Board of Directors met on-line to decide what to do with our group. It had become increasingly difficult to find members willing to step up and take on major responsibilities like the newsletter and membership oversight. For those members who had been fully engaged and committed to the group's activities, priorities for family or health concerns meant that they would no longer be able to dedicate significant amounts of time to creating the newsletter or participating fully in the organization's work. The Board of Directors carefully reviewed its options and reached a decision, that while difficult, was necessary. The Board believed that it was better to end the organization and close it out in a careful, thoughtful way than to have it slowly disintegrate because of a lack of interest, time and attention.

Some Closing Thoughts

We know that many of you value the information and friendships that develop on the Yahoo page, and we want to extend our appreciation to the owner of that list, for all her efforts over the years to keep this valuable communication tool open for Broto fans everywhere. We are proud of what BSI achieved over the years in creating, publishing, and distributing a high-quality quarterly publication. We take joy and delight in the many friendships that started, continued and flourished as a result of a shared interest in Brotos - some of the most magical birds on earth! We valued member ideas, input, advice and knowledge as people shared what they learned about the best possible care for Brotos. We recognize that as times change, organizations need to change as well, and we send a sincere thank you to each member, past and present, who played a role in advancing the cause of Brotogeris parakeets. It was a pleasure to serve you.

Sincerely,

BSI Board of Directors
